Scrap art axle burner

This burner is a perfect example of how we work with scrap to create interesting items. It began as a bundle of land rover parts. The axle had gotten too weak to be useful on a land rover, so it unfortunately had to go into the scrap pile. Of course this didn't mean that it was not useful. So we started trying to come up with something that it could be turned into and eventually settled on a chiminea style burner. All in all it contains one axle case, one steering swivel hub, four leaf springs, one gas bottle, one motorbike rear sprocket and part of a tread plate.

As it went this proved to be a good design for a burner, with the shape of the axle case good draw to fuel the fire. We then decided to make a feature of the door by shaping it and welding in the motorbike sprocket. This gives it a nice effect when it is lit at night by silhouetting the shape of the sprocket.

Making use of light is something we are very keen on, it gives items another dimension. We all enjoy sitting around the fire and by using things like this it makes it possible to enjoy the warmth and almost hypnotic effects of the fire but in a tidy and easy to manage burner.
